Why are people willing to accept that for some to prosper many should suffer?

I am guessing you would be surprised to learn that in socialist and communist countries there are a lot more poor or starving people than in capitalist countries. When things are provided for people without the expectation of something in return, or even if there is an expectation of work in return, the people become dependent on the government handouts. When a person is expected to work for what they need, they tend to seek out those opportunities. In a nation, such as Cuba or China, you have many more poor then in the US, in most cases, the poor in have it a lot better off. If you own a TV you are richer than many around the world. I would also love to hear your explanation about the "loathing of each other".
