No audio on AV channels on an old TV?

I have an old TV and a new LG dvd player plugged in, im on AV 2 trying to play the Nintendo Wii, ive got the plugs in right and I can get video but no audio, all it is is a fuzzy creaking sound, this also happens on AV 1 for the VCR playing videos, I can get audio for the DVD. Is my TV stuffed or am I just doing something wrong?
